Introducing Will

An introduction to Will Welsford, the musical director and conductor of LYC

Will Welsford has been the musical director and of Leicester Youth Chorus since 2001, he leads the weekly rehearsals and conducts the choir for the majority of it’s performances.

Will started his musical career in Leicester when he came to study at university in the 1980s. During this time he acted as a Songman at Leicester Cathedral, where he made many of the musical connections he still uses today. His love of music directing, and encouraging people of all ages to participate, has led Will to work with several choirs across the Midlands, including The Bardi Chorus, The Leicester University Choral Society, Sinfonia Viva, Leicestershire Chorale, Leicester Bach Choir and for many years as the Music Director of St Andrew’s Church, Aylestone.

He has acted as Musical Director for both the Leicester College of Performing Arts and Leicester College and in 2017 he joined DMU Music as Musical Director of the DMU Chamber Choir.

In addition to all that wonderful work, Will also finds the time to teach in several schools across the county, both as a class teacher and peripetetic instrumental teacher where he has supported many students in taking their music exams.
